CounterSpy"Enable / Disable Automatic Definition and Program Updates "

Configure CounterSpy's automatic spyware definition and program update notification service depending on your needs.

It is a good idea to periodically update CounterSpy's definitions and program file as new spyware, adware, and other threats are being developed all the time. You can check for updates manually. Or, CounterSpy can perform this check for you.

If CounterSpy is not regularly showing updated definitions, you should either perform a manual update or ensure automatic updating is configured.

On the other hand, you may not want CounterSpy performing checks for updated definitions. Perhaps you are on a dial-up connection or are just concerned about software automatically contacting the Internet.

To enable/disable automatic updates:

1. Double-click the CounterSpy icon in the Windows taskbar to open the software.

2. Select "View" - "Settings".

3. Select "Update Services".

4. Check or uncheck "Enable automatic updates (recommended)" as desired. If you enable this feature, select the day(s) and time(s) for updates to be performed. Also, check whether or not you want CounterSpy to "apply new spyware updates without interrupting me (recommended)".

5. Check or uncheck "Notify me when updates, patches, or new versions of CounterSpy are available".

Note that by unchecking all of these boxes CounterSpy will communicate with the Internet far less (useful if you are on a dial-up connection), but you will need to periodically manually check for updates.

6. Click "Save" to save your settings.
